today, i sat down with my colleagues, ironically but not strange, they are teachers who have taught me before.
mdm fadzilah and mr melvin tan (a.k.a cute thirsty hippo) told me about their experiences in educating their kindergarten kids, starting from how they learnt simple addition till the interpretation of timings. and then mdm fadzilah described this scenario which i found it very meaningful
"imagine there are two kids screaming over a marker pen, and what would modern educators do? these days, they would just give them 1 marker each..."
and so cute thirsty hippo said, " that's when students never learn to share ever since and that's why the students now are so self- centred"
although it's nothing really special, but it sets me thinking for a minute. i guess it's just so sad how our education system turn out like this. in our pursue for academics, or getting our work done, we settle for the easy-way-out solution and forgo the values needed to instil in our younger generation. parents expect teachers to instil values in their children while teachers think parents should do so instead. it just explains why city dwellers lack this thing called empathy for others.
wow i really learnt something in school.
